How Daily Meditation Affirmations Work

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny”

Daily Meditation Affirmations are a self-help strategy to help reduce stress, manage your habits and build an overall positive outlook in life. These short, simple yet powerful positive statements work as a tool for shifting your focus away from perceived failures and direct your focus towards your strengths - those you already have and those you want to develop.

Daily Meditation Affirmations tend to have the most benefit when you center them around your own specific traits, your own specific realities, core values and achievable changes you would like to make.

Knowing you have the ability to manage stress and other life difficulties can help boost confidence and self-empowerment, further promoting faith in yourself.

However, action is the key. Here’s an example:

You have a few deadlines to meet at work, your child is sick, you must attend an important meeting. Your daily smooth routine you have created is immediately kicked out the window that day because you must attend to your sick baby, you didn’t sleep well the night before and you most certainly did not get to do your usual morning routine. Very stressful situation, your mind is racing & scattered.

An affirmation like “I can remain calm and centered even in hard situations while I find solutions” or “Just like before, I'll survive this situation” might guide you to a habit of deep breathing or grounding exercises when you start to feel your blood boil.

And at the end of that very stressful day siting down and saying “I understand that today was meant to happen and it was an important milestone to help me evolve” might help you feel calmer, relaxed, lighten the burden and let go of the tension.

This has then helped you clear your racing mind and find clear solutions while remain calm and light.

So as you can see, the affirmation didn’t make the change, you did. But it did offer a starting point.

So in other words your activities should support your positive statements.

You must use the affirmations on a regular basis, that is why its called Daily Meditative Affirmations.

Benefits of Daily Meditation Affirmations

  • Positive affirmations reconnect you with emotions of gratitude and lighten your perspective.

  • Whenever you’re depressed, you can boost your problem-solving energy by using affirmations and could assist you to feel better under pressure.

  • Affirmations make you more progressive in your way of thinking. They improve your self-knowledge and make you understand your needs.

  • Positive statements make your behavior more positive, enthusiastic and action-oriented so you can rise above negative influences.

  • Affirmations can have a positive impact on your overall health & wellbeing

Here are some things that affirmations can be used to do to help manifest positive change in our lives:

Here are a few ways you can practice Daily Meditation Affirmations

1. Once or twice a day, find a quiet space. Sit up straight on the floor or chair / lay flat on your back on the floor (do not dose off to sleep if you choose this position), hands on your laps, close your eyes and take 4 – 5 deep diaphragmic breathes [basically find a comfortable position.

Start to focus your attention on the affirmation you had in mind, for example “I am open, I am healing, I am happy”.

You can start out with 3 – 5 minutes at a time and then build up to 10, 15 even 20 minutes per session.

All you do during this time is focus your attention on clearing your mind, following your breath and repeating your chosen affirmation(s).

2. Throughout the day as you carry on with your activities of the day, repeat your chosen affirmation(s) in your mind, for example “I choose to be free of hurt, anger, hatred and regret” , “I always speak calmly and clearly”. This will remind you to change your habits and act according to what you have affirmed in your life.

3. Mindful Walking – Take a stroll outdoors while you focus on your breathing, stretching out your limbs and focusing your mind on your affirmation.

You can do all three as it is possible or choose a practice that suites you best and make it a consistent daily routine.

"Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds."

The other side

The truth is, affirmations don’t work for everyone. And contrary to what some people suggest, positive thinking isn’t all-powerful.

Negative ideas about yourself can certainly hold you back, but sometimes these ideas come from something that dwells a little deeper within.

Also keep in mind negative thought patterns, feeling like you cannot deal with life, is often relate to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.

A trained professional (such as a psychologist) can help you begin identifying potential causes of negative or unwanted thoughts and explore helpful coping strategies, which might include affirmations alongside other tools.

If affirmations leave you in a worse mood, don’t take this as a sign of failure or resign yourself to an unhappy burdened life. It could simply mean your journey toward change uses a slightly different route. Other sources of help are available (counsellor, psychologist/psychiatrist/church leaders/spiritual healers) who can offer guidance and help you plot a better course of action.

Conclusion

Daily Meditation Affirmations could help you understand your pain/frustrations, lower your stress levels, connect better with your emotions, improve focus and reduce brain chatter.

We all need to be supported emotionally, but unfortunately, we don’t always find the healthy support we need in our daily lives. Meditation Affirmations are just one self-help tool, and like other strategies, they can offer some measure of relief, but their benefits usually depend on how you use them.

Affirmations are not a magical cure-all and therefore I urge you to be careful not to spiritually bypass your own problems, or the problems of others, by suggesting an affirmation a day can make anyone's problems go away.

The affirmation doesn’t make the change, you do, through training your mind to manage better, improve/change your habits and take steps towards your goals while maintaining your health, sanity and wellbeing. Daily Meditation Affirmation practice can mark a solid step on the journey toward self-improvement and overall wellbeing.
